Summary

  • Dior unveils the Golden Bamboo Pavilion in Tokyo, blending luxury fashion with Japanese craftsmanship
  • The space integrates a teahouse, conceptual gardens and immersive botanical installations by Japanese creatives
  • It also offers exclusive capsules, Dior Café and exhibitions, reinforcing Dior’s cultural ties to Japan

Dior has unveiled a breathtaking architectural landmark in the heart of Tokyo’s Daikanyama district with the Dior Golden Bamboo Pavilion. This exceptional new destination serves as a profound tribute to the deep-seated cultural bond between Dior and Japan. The structure is designed as a “living” installation that harmonizes high-fashion luxury with traditional craftsmanship, marking a significant milestone in Dior’s international retail presence.

The pavilion’s most striking design element is its intricate exterior, composed of thousands of hand-finished golden bamboo poles that wrap the building in a shimmering, organic lattice. This vertical arrangement is inspired by traditional taketori (bamboo cutting), modernized with a metallic gold coating that reflects Tokyo’s shifting light throughout the day.

Inside, the space continues this dialogue with nature, featuring minimalist interiors, washi paper accents and a central open-air atrium that allows natural light to filter through the bamboo exterior — creating a serene, “forest-like” atmosphere for visitors.

Collaborations with leading Japanese creatives enrich the space: horticulturist Seijun Nishihata designed conceptual gardens, floral artist Azuma Makoto created immersive botanical installations and designer Kodai Iwamoto built a thatched teahouse using traditional craft techniques. Contemporary designers such as Takt Project, Sho Ota, Ayumi Shibata, Hana Mitsui and Chikaken also contributed bespoke works, reinforcing the pavilion’s role as a cultural crossroads.

Beyond its visual grandeur, the Dior Golden Bamboo Pavilion functions as a multi-sensory retail experience, housing exclusive product capsules and a dedicated Dior Café that overlooks the district’s lush greenery. The space is also home to an exhibition area currently showcasing archival sketches and garments that highlight Christian Dior’s personal fascination with Japanese art and textiles.
