This week, the tech industry was hit with the tragic news of Cash App creator Bob Lee’s death, following a stabbing in San Francisco.

Elsewhere in the industry, Meta put out a new AI model that’s capable of identifying images in objects and videos that it hasn’t seen before. Google CEO Sundhar Pichai, meanwhile, has revealed the company’s looming plans to integrate conversational AI into the search engine. To wrap it up, Elon Musk was bumped down from his top spot on Forbes’ annual “World’s Billionaires List.”

Meta Released a New AI Model That Can Recognize and Mask Objects in Images and Videos

Meta engineered an advanced new AI model called the Segment Anything Model (SAM). This particular model is capable of identifying specific objects in an image or video, even those it never encountered in its initial training. As for how it’s of use to people, the SAM allows users to segment objects with a simple click or by selecting different points to include or exclude from an object. The model has been made publicly available for “research purposes.”

Google Shared Plans To Integrate Conversational AI Into the Search Bar

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has shared a bit more about the company’s AI endeavors. Speaking to The Wall Street Journal, Pichai spoke about the looming integration of LLMs (large language models) into Google’s flagship search engine.

“Will people be able to ask questions to Google and engage with LLMs [large language models] in the context of search? Absolutely,” Pichai said. “The opportunity space, if anything, is bigger than before.”

Last month, the company launched its own chatbot called Bard, which would provide the conversational basis for potential future integration.

Cash App Creator Bob Lee Was Fatally Stabbed in San Francisco

Bob Lee, the creator of payment service app Cash App, was fatally stabbed in San Francisco. Police responded to a call reporting that a stabbing had taken place on the street at 2:35 A.M. in the city’s Rincon Hill neighborhood. Lee’s family confirmed his death on social media.

The late tech entrepreneur had Cash App in 2013 as a part of Jack Dorsey’s company Square, which was then called Block. At the time of his death, Lee was serving as Chief Product Officer of the cryptocurrency startup MobileCoin.

Elon Musk Was Bumped Down on Forbes’ Annual “World’s Billionaires List”

Elon Musk has been dethroned from its spot as the richest man on Forbes‘ annual “World’s Billionaires List.” The Twitter and Tesla CEO lost a significant chunk of his net worth due to last year’s $44 billion USD Twitter buyout. Musk’s new net worth sits at $180 billion USD, a $39 billion USD decrease from last year’s report.

LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault is now the richest man in the world with a net worth of more than $211 billion USD.
