The Rijksmuseum Enlists New Amsterdam Surf Association for a Johannes Vermeer-Inspired Capsule
With jackets, button-ups, and graphic tees donning the Dutch Baroque-period painter’s works.

New Amerstdam Surf Association has cooked up a special capsule collection in collaboration with the Rijksmuseum, in honor of its latest Johannes Vermeer exhibition. The showcase, which runs until June 4, is the largest of the artist’s work to date. It is definitively sold out, however, so the museum’s New Amsterdam Surf Association collaboration intends to offer a slice of the experience to art and fashion fans alike.
The capsule includes a curated selection of artful jackets, classic graphic tees, painterly button-up shirts, bright pants and various new silhouettes, all of which are based on signature pillars of Vermeer’s work.
Among the range, the Blue Jacket, which features an oversized A-shape construction, transforms the garment pictured in Vermeer’s painting, Woman Reading A Letter (1663), into a modern-day workwear jacket. Meanwhile, an Italian-made cardigan highlights the rough strokes of the artist’s paintings, specifically through an outline of Vermeer’s The Milkmaid (1660).
Elsewhere, the Teddy Jacket offers a clothing canvas for Woman Reading A Letter (1663), and the Layday Shirt provides a forum for The Milkmaid (1660) to speak for itself. Graphic iterations of the artist’s work appear on both 100% organic tees and boxy oversized cotton long sleeves.
The collection is now available to shop on New Amsterdam Surf Association’s webstore. Take a look at the range in the lookbook above.
