Maarten Baas Wrapped a Private Jet in G-Star Raw Denim for Milan Design Week
The exhibition, titled “More or Less,” sheds a light on overconsumption.

At Milan Design Week 2023, denim purveyor G-Star Raw joined forces with Dutch designer Maarten Baas for an exhibition centered on sustainable denim design, titled “More or Less.” On view until April 23, the showcase looks to forge new paths for denim while highlighting issues regarding waste and overconsumption.
Inside San Paolo Converso church in Piazza Sant’Eufemia, the exhibition houses a massive, fifteen-meter-long private jet covered entirely in G-Star Raw’s denim. Baas utilized slabs of wasted fabric in varying tones for the project, bolting them to the exterior of the plane to form a patchwork-like skin around the full body of the aircraft.
“Each year in Davos there’s a discussion about 1,500 private jets flying there for people to talk about sustainability,” Baas told Dezeen. “That’s a great joke, that I could emphasize by making this private jet, the symbol of luxury and consumption, out of recycled materials.”
“A private jet is the ultimate symbol of the ‘More Or Less’ dilemma,” he added. “Each year in Milan, I enjoy the tragicomic dialogue between green design and mass consumption.”
In addition to the jet, the designer created three cabinets for the exhibition, each of which boasts a pant-like silhouette. Made with a textile board from recycled G-Star Raw jeans, as part of the brand denim recycling program in its stores, the cabinetry houses a selection of ready-to-wear items based on the gallery.
The cabinets are available for purchase, while the denim-clad jet will later enter G-Star Raw’s art collection. Take a look at the designs in the gallery above.
