The Emerging Label ZANKOV Is a Knitwear Maverick
Fun knits done seriously.
Knitwear is steeped in tradition, but it only takes one to bring it into a modern light — and perhaps ZANKOV is the emerging brand ready to do so.
Headed up by the St. Petersberg-born Russian designer Henry Zankov, the brand hails from New York and takes knitwear seriously, all while simultaneously having fun. Despite sounding contradictory, it isn’t — his work is crafted in mohair and alpaca wool with polyamide to improve the pieces’ elasticity and softness, but takes adventurous approaches with bold uses of color and prints.
The designer’s signature look is centered around geometric graphics, ranging from rainbow checkerboard intarsia weaves to more traditional checkered flag looks. Elsewhere, stripes in horizontal and vertical formations grace zip-up brushed mohair rugby jumpers and Merino wool polo tops, while new experimentations include the perforated “Pointelle” pullover in “Orchid” bouclé cotton and cotton crêpe intarsia dresses.
