Despite mixed responses upon its initial announcement, the excitement behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie has been building thanks to the teasers and trailer released in recent months. To mark the nearing April premiere date, Universal Pictures and Illumination have now released the final trailer for the film inspired by the iconic Nintendo video game franchise.

The latest look at the upcoming film starring Chris Pratt as Mario reveals scenes in the film that reference the gaming history of everyone’s favorite Italian plumber. After watching Bowser offer an empowering speech to his army of baddies comprised of Koopas, Goombas, and more, we watch Mario and Donkey Kong run through a New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe-like course. Followed by a race down Rainbow Road straight out of Mario Kart 8 with shell throwing and everything.

Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, animation studio Illumination worked closely with Nintendo to capture the feel of the game franchise with enhanced lighting and rendering technology to push its own production limits.
