Louis Vuitton Releases $37K USD Crochet Leather Jacket
First seen in the brand’s SS23 runway show.
Louis Vuitton is no stranger to a viral moment, and its SS23 collection, shown at Paris Fashion Week in June 2022, provided several — from the FAMU marching band to a performance from Kendrick Lamar. What shined brighter than everything else, even the blindingly yellow runway the models walked down, however, were the clothes themselves. From darted collars to mohair coats and motocross-inspired pieces, the LV design team made a bold statement with garments that saluted the late Virgil Abloh’s legacy, one of the most notable of which was a crocheted leather jacket. Now, that jacket has officially been revealed off-runway, and its exclusivity and price point are on par with its design.
The brand’s official name for the garment is a “Crochet Leather Overshirt.” At its center, the overshirt/jacket is seemingly inspired by chore coats, with a four-pocket chest, button closure and wide collar. However, the materials are about as far from workwear as you could imagine, with the chest and top third of the sleeves made from supple black calf leather, while the rest of the sleeves are covered with vibrant hand-crocheted patches that offer a homespun take on LV’s famed monogram flower print. If that wasn’t enough, there’s also a wide crocheted collar with a large flower affixed to its left side.
If you’re looking to score one of these jackets, you’ll have to be willing to shell out a pretty penny and be tapped in to the LV network as well. The jacket retails for $37,000 USD, and isn’t available in stores — it’s made to order, so you’ll have to contact the brand itself for purchasing info.
