The Weeknd‘s forthcoming HBO series The Idol is reportedly eyeing its premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.

Sources tell Variety that discussions are currently ongoing and that nothing is confirmed so far. If it pushes through, however, this will not be the first time a TV series had its premiere at the annual event; Twin Peaks: The Return and Top of the Lake: China Doll previously debuted at the festival. HBO has also not commented on the rumors, although a previous report claimed that the show will premiere on June 2023.

The Idol stars The Weeknd as Tedros, the owner of a nightclub in Los Angeles and secret leader of a cult, and Lily-Rose Depp as Jocelyn, a budding popstar who goes under Tedros’ wing and experiences the highs and lows of the seediest parts of the music industry. Joining The Weeknd and Depp are BLACKPINK‘s Jennie, Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney, Dan Levy, Hank Azaria and more, while the likes of Nico Hiraga and Tyson Ritter will be recurring characters.

Stay tuned for more info.

In related news, The Weeknd tied Michael Jackson’s Billboard Hot 100 record.
