AFFXWRKS SS23 Dances to the Beat of '90s Birmingham Sound
Paying tribute to rebellious English techno.
London-based label AFFXWRKS continues to expand its defiant workwear offerings with the reveal of its all-new Spring/Summer 2023 collection. Founded in 2016 by previous-Mackintosh designer Taro Ray, creative consultant Stephen Mann, Gimme Five‘s Michael Kopelman, and designer Kiko Kostadinov, the brand is grounded in functional menswear with an experimental outlook.
The collective imprint now debuts its SS23 collection dubbed “STASIS IS DEATH.” Inspired by tunes birthed in England’s West Midlands, the range draws on ’90s Birmingham Sound and its extensive impact on modern-day techno music. However, the genre provided an intense backbone compared to baseline funk from across the pond and defines the offering through the artist’s heavy-handed yet minimalistic aesthetic. Thus, crease-dyed workwear jackets accompany paint-smudged hoodies with a similar identity, matched with holographic mesh tops slated for the dancefloor.
Protective menswear sets boast ribcage gashes for increased breathability, while stained variations land in discolored brown hues. Traditional British tracksuits are kept sleek and simple for daily wear, pairing nicely with corresponding shoulder bags and chained eyewear. AFFX-branded crewnecks and tees complete the collection alongside staple utility pants for casual raving.
