Miu Miu FW23 Is a Sumptous Display of Subtle Sophistication

Miuccia Prada dives into the concept of “looking” to strip the concept of dressing back to its core.

Miuccia Prada‘s Miu Miu is sumptuous, delicate, and demure, making it a brand that welcomes one to live in its clothes. For Fall/Winter 2023, the House took to Paris Fashion Week to continue its efforts in creating it-girl bags and garments, while also putting the focus on cozy essentials elevated for the off-duty casual-chic attitude that oozes out of Miu Miu’s walls.

This season, Mrs. Prada dives into the notion of “looking,” in turn uncovering what is “underneath” and addressing the “outer” layers of clothing construction, and the structure of how we dress. For example, transparent chiffon is used frequently alongside exposed stockings, while models such as Emma Corrin simply wore underwear (albeit, not that simple as far as underwear goes), and dresses sat more like nightgowns — as if they were meant to be worn underneath another layer.

Opening with Mia Goth, Miu Miu served its signature cardigan with a bowling bag hung over the wrist — these girls want you to know that their accessories are to be desired and cherished. It was a styling cue replicated consistently throughout the show, as was Goth’s lowered waistline exposing the stockings beneath.

Comfortability was amped up with rich mustard corduroy jackets cut with double-breasted chests and trimmed in shearling collars, walking among complimenting twin set mini skirts. Likewise, shearling encompassed another pea coat, while gray structured wool was used in hoodies and overcoats for a minimalistic take on the aforementioned styles.

House tones of camel featured among more cardigans and knitted under layers for androgynous-leaning menswear — some of which was workwear-indebted — while extra slouchy bouclé fabrics were used to construct more twinsets destined to be wrapped up warm in.

Altogether, Miu Miu FW23 was yet another display of cute, kitschy clothing that’s nothing but enticing. Take a look at the runway show in the gallery above.
