Upcoming 'Pokémon TCG' Classic Box Set Features Base Set Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur
Offering fans a chance to own the iconic holographic cards.
During its annual Pokémon Day livestream, The Pokémon Company announced an upcoming Pokémon Trading Card Game for fans past and present. Set to arrive later this year, the “Pokémon Trading Card Game Classic” box set is being marketed as a “premium Pokémon TCG set that is designed to last a lifetime.”
The release will be centered around the original 150-card set known as the “1st Starter & Expansion Pack/Base Set” released in Japan on October 20, 1996, and in the United States on January 9, 1999. Delivering an unmistakable sense of nostalgia the preconstructed decks and accessories are “uniquely designed to be both beautiful and functional to deliver a polished battling experience.”
Leading the Pokémon Trading Card Game Classic box set is led by three 60-card preconstructed decks featuring Base Set Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur, along with Ho-Oh ex, Lugia ex, and Suicune ex. Accompanying accessories include Poké Ball and black/white card Sleeves, Fire, Water, and Grass Deck Boxes, and various tokens. Finally, for easy play and carry, the set features a foldable fabric board and toolbox.
Pricing is still TBD, but the Pokémon Trading Card Game Classic box set is now set to release before the end of 2023.
