This week, Google returned with a complex, sprawling new AI model dubbed Gemini. Wikipedia, meanwhile, reminded the tech industry of OpenAI’s dominance, revealing that “ChatGPT” was the most popular Wikipedia article of 2023, along with other statistics.

On the product side, CASETify is putting out a sprawling collection of Naruto cases for phones, computers, tablets and AirPods. And JJJJound launched a $650 mechanical keyboard, which sold out within a day.

Below, Hypebeast has rounded up the top tech stories of the week so you can stay up to date on trends in the industry.

CASETiFY Looked to ‘Naruto’ for a New Collection

CASETiFY is paying homage to the anime and manga Naruto in its latest collection. The Hong Kong-based company has rolled out a sprawling collection of cases featuring fan-favorite characters from the franchise, along with distinct graphics and patterns. Fans can opt to rep Sasuke and Minato, among others, or the Naruto cloud symbol, while shades of black, orange and red form the color palette for fun graphics.

The collection is inclusive of cases for iPhone, Samsung, AirPods, MacBook and iPad. Fans can also add on utility phone straps to their order. The collection will officially launch on December 13.

“ChatGPT” Is Wikipedia’s Most Popular Article of 2023

Wikipedia has revealed its user statistics for the year 2023. While AI chatbots seemingly dominated headlines throughout the past 12 months, users specifically wanted to learn more about OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Shared by the Wikimedia Foundation, the “ChatGPT” page received 49,490,406 pageviews. Second to ChatGPT, users flocked to see “Deaths in 2023” with 42,666,860 pageviews. In the third spot was the “2023 Cricket World Cup.” However popular, those pages only account for a mere fraction of Wikipedia’s content. In total, the platform received over 84 billion views this year.

JJJJound Engineered a $650 USD Vintage-Inspired Mechanical Keyboard

JJJJound is looking back on 1970s-era mechanical keyboards with its own version. The brand teamed up with vintage-inspired keyboard maker Model F Labs for a $650 USD JJJJound-branded Model F keyboard.

The already-sold-out board is powered by a capacitive bucking spring system, lending to that distinct clicket-clack sound. Keys come in a zinc metal die-cast case and feature serif font and the board can be hooked up to most devices via USB-C, including Windows, OS X, Linux, Android and iOS.

Google Debuted Its “Largest and Most Capable” AI Model, Gemini

Google followed in the footsteps of OpenAI earlier this year with its own take on the AI chatbot, Bard. The company has returned with what it’s lauding as its “largest and most capable” AI model.

The multimodal language model is called Gemini and is broken down into various components to fulfill user needs. Gemini Ultra, for instance, is made to tackle extremely complex tasks, while Gemini Pro is built for a wider variety of uses. Gemini Nano, meanwhile, is engineered to function on mobile devices.

Gemini is designed to “generalize and seamlessly understand, operate across and combine different types of information including text, code, audio, image and video,” CEO and co-founder of Google DeepMind Demis Hassabis said.

Bard has already begun operating with a version of Gemini Pro, which will be made available on Google AI Studio and Google Cloud Vertex AI come December 13.
