Louis Vuitton Reveals New Frank Gehry Handbags at Art Basel Miami
The limited-edition collection will be on display alongside a slew of special artifacts from the renowned architect’s longstanding collaboration with the French fashion house.
At Art Basel Miami Beach, Louis Vuitton will preview a selection of handbags designed in collaboration with Pritzker Prize-winning, Canadian-American architect, Frank Gehry.
Organized under four themes — Architecture and Form, Material Exploration, Animals and Gehry’s Twisted Box creation for “Celebrating Monogram”— the stand will become the birthplace for the Louis Vuitton x Frank Gehry limited-edition handbag collection. The line will include designs based on the brand’s classic Capucines silhouette, the Twisted Box Trunk and a Bear With Us Clutch (inspired by Gehry’s 2014 Bear With Us sculpture).
The collection looks to fuse both parties’ artistic codes, with a playful approach to its craftsmanship. Among the standouts, a Capucines Mini Blossom boasts glass-like resin petals galvanized by perfume bottles and a logo reminiscent of the one Gehry created for Fondation Louis Vuitton.
Outside of the bag collaboration, the booth will house Gehry’s Les Extraits perfume packaging, as well as a selection of sketches and models, including early drawings for his “Celebrating Monogram” project. Additionally, videos showcasing Gehry’s most-lauded collaborations with the French Maison will echo through the room.
Louis Vuitton’s Art Basel Miami Beach booth will be open to the public from December 8 to 10 in the West Lobby of the Miami Beach Convention Center. Take a look at the brand’s Frank Ghery handbags in the gallery above.
