To round out 2023, Japanese streetwear boutique atmos has collaborated with New Balance on a no-frills blacked out 550 sneaker. Having debuted back in 1989 by designer Steven Smith, the silhouette has seen a resurgence in recent years, from its early beginnings as a basketball shoe to an all-around lifestyle silhouette thanks to collaborations with Aimé Leon Dore, Jack Harlow and more.

The latest to join the line ditches some of the more eccentric colorways in favor of a stealth all-black upper and sole unit, accentuated by white detailing along the “N” logo at the base, as well as lining throughout the shoe. According to reports, atmos was notably inspired by the streetwear sensibilities of the 2010s, particularly in the monotone color palettes and streetwear labels during that period.

For those of you looking to purchase, the atmos x New Balance 550 “Black/White” will be available through a raffle at atmos’ flagship store in Tokyo that ends on December 22. The shoe itself will release in-store the following day.
