Following the release of her debut studio album, With A Hammer, in April, Yaeji has returned with her first new single. Out via XL Recordings and arriving with an official music video, the track is called “Easy Breezy” and sees the Brooklyn artist ponder an internal battle of learning to let go and move on from certain events.

Contrary to the songs title, Yaeji sings, “Learning to let go / It’s not so easy, it’s not so breezy / Feeling no judgemen / It’s not so easy, it’s not so breezy.”

Yaeji shared that the lyrics for “Easy Breezy” pull lines from songs throughout her discography. For instance, “isn’t it so crazy how we pass down what we didn’t want to” is taken from her single “Done (Let’s Get It).” She also uses lyrics that previously appeared in the songs “29,” “Submerge FM,” “I’ll Remember for you, I’ll Remember for Me” and “For Granted.”

“Sonically, the song connects a thread between me now and me back in middle school —when I discovered bossa nova, drum and bass, and house through Korean and Japanese pop electronica,” she said. “Easy Breezy” is a thread, a tribute, a recollection of memories, and an encouraging push for us to bring forth change with courage and laughter.”
