Yaeji Shares Lead Single “For Granted” From Forthcoming Debut LP ‘With a Hammer’
Expanding on her experimental pop and house sound.
Yaeji will be delivering her highly-anticipated debut album this Spring. The Brooklyn-based singer and DJ has officially announced that her first studio LP is called With a Hammer and will arrive via XL Records on April 7.
Fans of Yaeji have been awaiting a full-length album for a few years now. She’s already put out a few EPs and a 2020 mixtape titled What We Drew 우리가 그려왔던.
While With a Hammer may be her first studio LP, the artist has gained a loyal following for her eclectic sound, blending house, hip-hop and indie pop, with lyrics sung in both English and Korean. The project will feature guest appearances from Loraine James, Nourished By Time, K Wata and Enayet.
“Music is like alchemy, and us who interact with music are alchemists. We have the power to transmute feelings, experiences, and relationships,” Yaeji wrote about the album in a letter to fans earlier this month.
“I want to begin this album with intent. I want to take all that I’ve suppressed and let it breathe and live through this process of creation. I want my music to be free. So I started writing a story about me and my hammer. A hammer crafted from my anger.”
She’s also shared the lead single from the forthcoming LP, “For Granted.” Based on the song, it seems that she’ll be continuing to lean into an experimental approach to pop music on the new album.
Yaeji’s With a Hammer is out for streaming on April 7.
In other music news, Lil Yachty will release his fifth studio album Let’s Start Here later this month.
