Paul Mescal and Xiao Zhan Star in Gucci's Horsebit 1953 Loafer Campaign
Celebrating the signature shoe’s 70th anniversary.
Celebrating 70 years of the Horsebit 1953 loafer, Gucci has dropped off an all-new campaign spotlighting the heritage footwear silhouette on actor and ambassador Paul Mescal and global brand ambassador Xiao Zhan.
Mescal and Zhan are pictured wearing the original Gucci Horsebit loafer, which features a miniaturized horse bit (or a double ring connected by a bar), a leather composition and a low heel. As its moniker suggests, the design was first introduced in 1953, and it has since gone on to become an emblematic staple in the signature Gucci wardrobe.
Governed by the House’s creative director Sabato De Sarno, the sartorial imagery sees both actors at ease while sporting the monumental shoes. Zhan, photographed by Feng Li, wears dark green, brown and black iterations of the loafers with varying sophisticated tops and trousers. Mescal, lensed by Heji Shin, similarly shows off the shoes in a number of different poses and looks.
The images come after a slew of campaigns centered on Gucci’s heritage accessories, including those for the Jackie 1961, Horsebit 1955 and Bamboo 1947 bags. See Gucci’s new Horsebit 1953 loafer campaign, starring Paul Mescal and Xiao Zhan, in the gallery above.
