KENZO and Levi’s® Merge East and West In New Collaboration
Celebrating Japan’s Kaihara denim through a slew of American icons.
International denim pioneer Levi’s® has nearly two centuries of experience under its belt, celebrating 150 years of timeless 501® jeans in 2023. The brand has released countless collaborations to mark the occasion, uniting with Crocs, Denim Tears, and ERL throughout the year.
Levi’s® taps Nigo‘s KENZO For its latest endeavor, merging east and west across a multi-cultural partnership. The latter’s Japanese roots come to life across a denim-heavy offering packed with American heritage. The 20-item range honors Japan’s Kaihara denim through American icons, made for local cowboys and workmen, while celebrating KENZO founder Kenzo Takada.
Shot in Kyoto, the immersive campaign travels to the traditional villas of Mount Mitsutouge. Fringed denim outerwear is given a Western feel with Sashiko embroidery and contrasting collars, while suspended bottoms are strung with leather accents. Shredded versions follow, complemented by Boke flower-printed blazers and badged shirting. Essential overalls and distressed trucker jackets honor traditional Levi’s® gear, completing the collection with satin-trimmed uniforms, denim neckties, and illustrative bandanas.
