Song for the Mute Breaks Away From Normality for FW23
Presenting its second collaboration with adidas Originals, featuring updated contemporary sportswear and the “SFTM-002 Campus” sneaker.
Australian label Song for the Mute has been seen everywhere as of late, following its collaboration with adidas Originals and a whole batch of Shadowturf “SFTM-001” colorways. The elevated co-ed imprint now presents its latest collection of futuristic garments with the debut of its Fall/Winter 2023 offering.
For Spring/Summer 2023, SFTM created its own dystopian universe and channeled futuristic energy into innovative clothing with a digital application. For its latest collection, Creative Directors Melvin Tanaya and Lyna Ty search to disbalance commonality through eccentric textiles and tones that stray from the mainstream.
In the menswear department, models walk through a concrete jungle wearing glossy outerwear and overwashed denim pulled from an alternate reality. In addition, workwear trousers dangle from waists with distorted graphics, offset by color-blocked cardigans that reveal chiseled torsos beneath. Sportswear motifs are paired with boxy blazers that feature shrunken lapel amendments, concealing the face with knit balaclavas that give a rebellious aura.
For women, puffed coats are adorned with SFTM pins and layered with refined suiting and vibrant mesh tops. Split-cut outerwear boasts dissimilar prints on both sides, accented with patchwork-style imagery and unfinished edges. Further variations see warped floral silk plissé patterns accessorized with rope belts and fingerless opera gloves.
The label’s second collaboration with adidas Originals also hits the runway, featuring loose-cut tracksuits in dim shades of “Charcoal Grey,” “Earthen Brown,” “Emerald Green,” and “Lime.” Cropped overshirts match with roomy bottoms that elevate contemporary sportswear to new heights. The duo’s second footwear installment is freshly presented and dubbed the “SFTM-002 Campus.” The low-cut silhouette arrives in “Black, “Army Green,” and “Off-White,” donning frayed edges, metallic eyelets, and medial Three Stripes branding in contrasting hues inside and out.
