Carhartt WIP and New Balance Debut Neighborhood Gym-Inspired 990v1 Collaboration
The two partners’ first collaborative effort also includes a full set of co-branded apparel.
Carhartt WIP and New Balance’s first piece of collaborative footwear, a 990v1, was accidentally leaked earlier this year and then quickly scrubbed from the Internet. Now, the first-time collaborative partners have given it the official introduction it’s long deserved, explained its inspirations and revealed its matching apparel selection.
Inspired by the idea of a “sculpture center” — a lofty way of saying the humble neighborhood gyms that can be found across America — this collaborative take on the very first silhouette in the 990 line features a mesh and suede construction with a classic navy color scheme that’s accented by hits of light brown and traditional grey. This palette draws from the muted, humble tones of the previously-mentioned “sculpture center,” but is also given some flair by co-branded tongues and small reflective elements. Original details like a large heel clip, EVA foam midsole and Vibram outsole return as well.
Besides the shoes, the collection also features an updated take on Carhartt WIP’s Arcan jacket with a snap-on hood, a selection of garment-dyed jersey cotton apparel pieces, graphic tees and accessories like a Nalgene water bottle, beanies and towels, all of which follow a similar color scheme and inspiration to lock in the overarching message.
Look for the Carhartt WIP x New Balance 990v1 and its matching apparel to touch down at New Balance and Carhartt WIP outposts on September 16.
