Acne Studios SS23 Was a Romantically Pink Affair

Jonny Johansson‘s Swedish stalwart house, Acne Studios, has celebrated its 10th anniversary of showing in Paris as part of Paris Fashion Week this season. It’s a brand that needs no introduction; known for flowy cuts, loose fabrics, and a Scandinavian way of life typically wrapped up in its own ease and formality. Acne Studios takes this nuanced understanding and then subverts it, as suits are draped and fold across the body naturally often in soft neutral or pastel hues, and outerwear takes things to the next level with faux furs and dramatic silhouettes. Recently, the brand has upped the ante in terms of its star-quality dazzle, with a Fall/Winter 2022 menswear drop consisting of disco fever highlights throughout.

For Spring/Summer 2023, Acne Studios took to Paris Fashion Week with a delicate collection that seemed projected from another universe. Cozy mattresses enhanced by silk sheets and pillows set a tender scene in the brand’s signature pink, mirrored onto feathery carpets and boxed pedestals that lifted abstract candelabras high. Etherial Nordic folk tunes filled the air with an other-worldly timbre as SS23 antics commenced.

The runway was a meeting point for innocent lace, restless leather and grunge decor. Ruffled silk tops graced the stage, accompanied by pale yellow chiffon skirts that donned an asymmetrical cut. Semi-sheer lace mini dresses gave a slight peek at what’s beneath, decorated with sizeable ribbons and romantic heart emblems. Short-sleeved renditions were matched with slitted leather bottoms traced with uneven metal spikes, garnishing distressed trench coats, geometrical handbags and stomping footwear.

Soft pink crotched tanks and slashed knits were set atop polished satin trousers, delivering a clashing attitude not to be missed. Revealing maxi dresses put the female figure on display, sheltered by an array of lively florals that blossomed with every step. In contrast, some garments were tugged at the shoulders, while others featured fragile cutouts that unveiled romantic roses in shades of pink.
