URWERK Takes Its UR-100V To The Ultraviolet End of The Spectrum
Debuts a subtly updated movement.
URWERK has revealed an all-purple ‘ultraviolet’ take on its UR-100V with a newly tweaked movement.
The UR-100V Ultraviolet uses the new URWERK Calibre 12.02 with a redesigned forged aluminum central carousel that sees the rotating hour markers positioned closer to the minute scale for better legibility. Text and numerals are picked out in contrasting white and the minute pointer and 60-minute marker is highlighted in neon yellow.
URWERK selected wanted to explore the idea of ultraviolet because of its position on the spectrum beyond that of perceptible color, with URWERK co-founder and designer, Martin Frei, saying: “I like the fact that a colour is much more than what we can perceive. The colour spectrum visible to our eyes ranges from red to violet. Beyond that shade, colour turns into a waveform that our eyes can no longer detect, ultraviolet. I am fascinated by the idea of creating a watch that celebrates this boundary, this tipping point, this transition from perceptible to imperceptible.”
The UR-100V is available now via URWERK retailers, priced CHF 55,000 (approximately $56,400 USD).
