Right before Summer 2022 comes to a close, sports apparel titans APLAthletic Propulsion Labs – and McLaren have announced an exclusive collaboration of luxury performance footwear, by launching the new APL x McLaren “HySpeed™” sneaker as its first offering.

With a limited-edition approach to the collab, the two brands are combining “all-purpose” activity with luxury, marking the first foray into footwear for McLaren. The new sneaker entails an advanced mesh upper that wraps the midsection and toe box, while the midsole comprises APL’s “FutureFoam™“ pod technology modeled after McLaren’s “Senna” car seats – connecting the front and back soles with a single, carbon fiber plate.

The featured colorway here is an “Energy Green” with contrasting metallic silver outsole and backstay detail. Additionally, there’s a “McLaren Orange,” “Rose Dust,” all-white and black/white ombré color options available. Branding appears via logo decals placed on the tongue, insole and bottom of the outsole.

Commenting on the collaboration, Goran Ozbolt, Acting Design Director of McLaren Automotive, says: “APL has developed new technologies specifically for this shoe – inspired by our ground-breaking work using lightweight materials, which also maximises the wearer’s comfort and experience. Like stepping into a McLaren, it is all about optimising performance, agility and speed.”

In agreement, APL Co-Founders, Adam Goldston, and Ryan Goldston said: “Over the past two years the APL and McLaren teams have collaborated on countless design sketches, many different construction techniques, extensive product testing, and rounds of samples to create the most unique performance shoe the market has ever seen.”

“The APL McLaren HySpeedTM is truly an exercise in design and engineering excellence that was created through pushing the limits of what is possible in footwear,” they added.

Available now, the new sneaker retails for $450 USD for men and women and can be purchased on the APL website or at its flagship store experience at The Grove in Los Angeles, and select retailers.

In other fashion news, Gerry Beckley joined Todd Snyder on a limited-edition Summer ’22 collection.
