With the third season of The Boys now underway, esteemed Japanese video game creator Hideo Kojima has opened up about killing a project because his idea was too similar to the graphic novel-adapted Amazon series. Taking to Twitter, Kojima revealed that he had begun watching the show but stopped after just three episodes of the first season, adding that it reminded him closely of a project he had been brainstorming and preparing for.

“I thought I’d watch the rest of the show,” he began. “Actually, I watched a few episodes that were delivered at the time when I was about to start a project that I had been warming up for a long time, and put it on hold because the concept was similar (different settings and tricks). A buddy (male/female) with a special detective squad facing off against legendary heroes behind the scenes. I was thinking of Mads [Mikkelsen] as the lead.”

Since the revelation, fans have been discussing the potential of such a game from Kojima, and even The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke chimed in, saying the video game creator should make a game based on the show. Homelander actor Antony Starr also agreed, showing his support for the idea on Twitter as well. Unfortunately, Kojima hasn’t responded to these words of encouragement yet, so it remains unlikely a game like this would ever come to fruition.

In other gaming news, Square Enix has unveiled a new Final Fantasy-styled farming simulator called Harvestella.
