Ferragamo Applies Expert Material Innovation to Sustainable Fibers For New F-80 Skeleton
Exclusively crafted for National Ocean Month.
To mark International Ocean Month, Ferragamo presents its archetypal F-80 timepiece with a Skeleton dial and sustainable watch strap.
Initially introduced at 2008 Baselworld Fair, the new watch pack sees the Italian house incorporate vegetable-tanned leather, FSC-certified cork and a mix of other natural fibers to its construction.
The exclusive F-80 Skeleton is characterized by its wrist strap with low environmental impact materials. Built from layer of woven post-consumer recycled PET fibers that comes stitched to an inner made of FSC-certified cork and hole covers in vegetable-tanned leather, the strap is comfortable whilst offering an alternatively pared back sporty look.
At the center, the skeleton dial reveals the watch’s technical construction with automatic movement that is visible through the transparent case back. Its body of dials, a rotor and the stand-out double Gancini symbol is framed by a smooth steel edge adding a sleek finish to the watch.
In a nod to the sea’s and natural elements, the watch is dressed in two muted colorways of green and blue with each model dropping in 200 limited pieces.
Ferragamo coordinates both iterations with specially-designed boxes made of FSC certified cardboard and a protective case in metal and wood that comes lined with hemp and a post-consumer recycled PET fibre. Packaging also includes a watch cushion made entirely of sugar cane derived bioplastic.
The move to more sustainable processes is more than just a singular project for the Maison. Ferragamo aims to use its decades of craftsmanship to innovate new low environmental impact materials across its wide range of products, marking a new era for the brand.
