LEGO Group has officially opened its new state-of-the-art LEGO Campus headquarters in Billund, Denmark. The 54,000 sqm (approximately 580,000 sqft) space was designed by C.F. Møller Architects to accommodate around 2,000 employees who will call the innovative workplace their home away from home.
“Reflecting the LEGO Group values of ‘Imagination, Fun, Creativity, Caring, Learning, and Quality’, the Campus has been designed to provide a playful, inclusive, and collaborative environment that enables employees to develop the best play experiences for children all over the world,” LEGO writes in a press release.
The core element of the LEGO Campus is the “People House,” which was built as a hybrid space for employees and their families to gather during and after working hours. Labeled as a “place for relaxation, inspiration, and recharging,” the People House features a massive fitness studio featuring a multipurpose court, LEGO homestay for visitors, creative workshop space, cinema, communal kitchen, health clinic, park, and outdoor activity zones.
Sustainability was the main consideration when constructing the campus, and many design elements were added and incorporated to achieve a Gold-level LEED certification. Features include the use of special gypsum fiberboard which reportedly saved 650,000 kg of CO2 emissions during construction, the use of 5,000 kg (11,023 lbs) of waste LEGO bricks for all outdoor furniture, installment of solar panels found on the roof of a nearby parking facility, and a focus on biodiversity with a range of indigenous greenery in and around the campus.
LEGO Campus officially opened on April 5 for LEGO employees and their families. Take a scroll through the images above, and find an in-depth walkthrough video below.
