Inspired by SaffyCreatives’ instructional meme, footwear designer and sneaker creative Marc V Brosseau set out to make his own Balenciaga Defender sneakers. The do-it-yourself project serves to celebrate the unique look of Demna Gvasalia‘s footwear design for the Spanish luxury fashion house while offering a cheaper alternative to the $1,090 USD shoe.

To make his “BOOTLENCIAGA” Balenciaga Defender sneakers, Brosseau thrifted a pair of black Asics GEL-1130 running shoes to act as the upper of the shoe. Then a skeleton for the sole was crafted with cardboard before applying spray foam, once set, the spray foam was sculpted to create the overall shape. A used bike tire was then cut up into panels and glued onto the shaped foam sole to finish the look.

Check out how to make your own “BOOTLENCIAGA” Balenciaga Defender sneakers below.
