'One Piece' x GCDS Is for the Die-Hard Manga Fans
The graphic-covered collection isn’t for the shrinking violets among us.
The fashion world is crazy for cartoons — famously, we’ve seen LOEWE reference Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away, Vans collaborate with JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and GCDS tap everything from Tom & Jerry to Pokémon. Now, GCDS returns to celebrating its love for cartoons with its latest collaborative collection, this time around enlisting the manga franchise One Piece.
GCDS’ Creative Director Giuliano Calza doesn’t hide his love for Japanese comics, anime, or manga, and as a result, has gone graphic-heavy with the One Piece references. However, just because it’s a comical clothing collection does not mean the fine details of fashion have been forgotten — crochet tank tops, wide collar bowling shirts, wide-leg sweatpants, pajama-like pants, cargo pants, and accessories feature frequently alongside T-shirts, hoodies, and essentials such as socks.
As the series is predominantly about pirates, many treasures have been embedded into the collection. For example, the crochet tank top is comprised of the Jolly Roger emblem repeated between intersections of green stone appliqués, while a “Tourist Hat” wouldn’t look out of place on a cruise ship.
Elsewhere, bowling shirts and pants are covered in the artworks of One Piece, with others depicting manga mermaids or main characters such as Monkey D. Luffy.
