The annual event commemorates the release of the first Air Max 1 on March 26, 1978. The model, designed by Tinker Hatfield, introduced Nike’s Air Max cushioning technology and an innovative silhouette defined by curved striations throughout the topside upper and a visible window at the outsole.
Soft and light like a cloud, the Air Max 1 remains Nike’s best-selling model with an endearing following that eventually spawned the Air Max II in 1989. And so the story goes, lightweight sneakers plucked from the sky with style and performance to boot.
“AM Dawn” arrives in a muted pink colorway, accented with sage green overlays at the toe cap, eye stays, foxing and heel tab. Rounding out the summer-ready vibe is a light grey Nike Swoosh applied to the side panel, followed by crisp white laces and a neon orange micro Swoosh at the tongue.
“AM97” is outfitted with an all-black canvas upper and features threaded blue and white curved channels throughout the lateral panels. In tandem, tiered leather striations rest near the eye stays. The chunky white outsole features a translucent window and allows a peek at the Air Max cushion. “XXXV” is embroidered at the toe cap, with blue Swooshes at the quarter panel and tongue. Black laces finish off the monochromatic theme.
“AM 90 SE” is engulfed in a white canvas with contrasting navy blue paneling applied to the upper. Electric green accents brighten up the model, and an embroidered outline demarcates the Swoosh logo. A “32C Air Max” branding patch appears at the tongue, complete with jet black laces. Air Max Day will also showcase notable iterations of the “AM 90” line, including the “Premium” and “Excee” models.
