Mr. Saturday FW22 Fuses Retro-Futuristic and Americana Styles
Inspired by German electronic band, Kraftwerk.
Mr. Saturday has unveiled its new Fall/Winter 2022 collection that fuses retro-futuristic and Americana styles. Titled “Radio On,” the new collection is inspired by the German band, Kraftwerk, who are known for their influence on electronic music.
Mr. Saturday’s founder and creative director Joey Gollish evolves the Toronto-based brand by reflecting on nightlife and culture-defining moments throughout history. His affinity for blending these histories with fashion is what led Gollish’s meditation on Kraftwerk’s imprint on art, music and culture. Featuring 34 looks, the menswear and womenswear collection is comprised of androgynous styling, edgy oversized silhouettes, upcycled fabrics and custom graphics. Specifically, the garments foster a modernized approach to tailoring and reimagining classic garments.
“‘Radio On’ feels like a return to the roots of Mr. Saturday. Sound has always been an important element of our projects, so centering this season on Kraftwerk and their influences was incredibly eye-opening,” said Gollish. “I think we’re all children of Kraftwerk and Bauhaus, even more so than you’d think. This collection is about closing the loop of Kraftwerk references and expressing their language of Retro-Futuristic-Americana that feels close to home for me.”
Menswear pieces expand Americana silhouettes with an array of elevated garments. Collection highlights include a leather whiskey-colored trench coat with a back pocket, a crisp black tailored trench coat with visible seams, a black padded leather moto jacket and a checkerboard sherpa coat in beige and black with circular back detailing. The usage of varying fabrics remains a collection focal point as elongated knitwear, relaxed pants and more are cast in fuzzy cotton, leather and wool materials.
