Coach set its Fall/Winter 2022 runway show inside of an imagined neighborhood “Somewhere in America” – but streamed live from Basketball City on the lower east side of NYC.

Stuart Vevers, the first head designer for Coach, introduced his vision of American heritage in a collection that featured 40+ looks that were set against a thumping soundtrack of ‘70s romance remixed with ‘90s grunge. The show opened with a montage of interactive models depicting scenes of everyday life – returning home from grocery shopping, riding bikes, and hanging out from an upstairs bedroom window.

Ready-to-wear and accessory items included leather chokers, wide-rimmed shades, vintage-inspired tees, and shearling outerwear. Bright neon hues contrasted against black and brown colorways, while graffiti spray-painted items – customized by artists Mint&Serf – also made an appearance on the runway.

Describing his inspiration for the season, Vevers said, “My collections often begin with a feeling, and for Fall, the feeling was love. I liked the idea of creating a nostalgic world somewhere in America seen through a widescreen lens, mixing the energy of today with the nostalgia for pop culture that has always inspired me.”

Coach ambassadors including Megan Thee Stallion, Rickey Thompson, and Quincy Brown were visibly supportive and seated front row. Additionally, Waves film star and upcoming Basquiat actor Kelvin Harrison Jr. was in attendance and shared his perspective on attending New York Fashion Week – and the show – for the first time:

“I’m really excited and trying to take it all in. I think it’s so cool that Coach is doing a grunge and ‘70s type of vibe. It feels fun, and I can actually wear the collection,” he said.

The complete collection and previews of the upcoming “Coach TV” series starring Megan Thee Stallion and Thompson, can be found on the Coach website.

In other NYFW news, APOTTS dedicated its FW22 Collection to “Skinfolk” as part of New York Men’s Day.
