New 'M3GAN' Trailer Readies a Killer Doll Nightmare
The sinister AI robot is hungry for blood.
Universal Pictures on Wednesday dropped off the second official trailer for M3GAN, a forthcoming (and very meme’d) killer-doll movie following a blood-thirsty AI robot.
The thriller is the brainchild of two horror masterminds: James Wan, the director behind Saw, Insidious and The Conjuring, and Blumhouse, the producer of The Black Phone and The Invisible Man. With award-winning filmmaker Gerard Johnstone (Housebound) on board to direct, the project has all of the executive parts to become a hit.
Here’s the official synopsis: “M3GAN is a marvel of artificial intelligence, a life-like doll programmed to be a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally. Designed by brilliant toy-company roboticist Gemma (Get Out’s Allison Williams), M3GAN can listen and watch and learn as she becomes friend and teacher, playmate and protector, for the child she is bonded to.”
“When Gemma suddenly becomes the caretaker of her orphaned eight-year-old niece, Cady (Violet McGraw, The Haunting of Hill House), Gemma’s unsure and unprepared to be a parent,” it continues. “Under intense pressure at work, Gemma decides to pair her M3GAN prototype with Cady in an attempt to resolve both problems—a decision that will have unimaginable consequences.”
Amie Donald acts as the titular robot, while Jenna Davis receives credit for her voice. Elsewhere, the cast includes Ronny Chieng, Brian Jordan Alvarez, Jen Van Epps, Lori Dungey and Stephane Garneau-Monten.
M3GAN is s scheduled to premiere in theaters on January 6, 2023. Watch the second official trailer above.
