Elon Musk Temporarily Close Twitter Offices Amidst Mass Resignation

Earlier this week, Elon Musk emailed a pledge to his Twitter employees, which they were required to sign by the deadline of 5:00 P.M. ET on Thursday (November 17) in order to keep their jobs. The pledge made clear the fact that those who refuse to sign it will be laid off with three months of severance pay.

According to The New York Times, Musk and his advisers have met with a handful of Twitter staff who were deemed “critical” to persuade them to stay with the company. A couple of insiders, who had knowledge of these conversations told The New York Times that Musk had sent out confusing messages concerning the company’s remote work policy, which appeared to be an attempt to soften his stance.

By the deadline, a flux of employees seemed to have left Twitter. Later on the day, Twitter also announced via email that their office buildings will be closed, with all employee access disabled until Monday.

In the aftermath of this mass resignation, the hashtag #RIPTwitter started trending. Some users began posting memes of gravestones for the platform with epitaphs that reads “Killed By Elon Musk,” while some announced that they’ll migrate to other social platforms.

Earlier, Musk jokingly tweeted how he spent a “large” amount of money on the social media platform, followed by a subsequent mention that exclaim they “just hit another all-time high in Twitter usage.
