Balenciaga's Latest Runner Sneaker Will Get Your Spidey Senses Tingling

Balenciaga is the superhero of the fashion world, constantly battling against the wrath of high-fashion norms with its subversive take on luxury. We’ve seen this with its recent adidas collaboration, the tape-covered Hourglass handbag, the $1,800 USD Lay’s pochette, and so much more, including the distressed retro dad shoe, the Runner sneaker. With great power comes great responsibility, and Balenciaga isn’t one to not make shoes fit for all occasions — hence its continued effort to release more colorways of the Runner sneaker such as this new one in grey, blue, red and black.

Are your spidey senses tingling? Because this colorway is irrefutably reminiscent of the web-spinning Peter Parker’s uniform. Aside from colors, though, you’ll find the Runner sporting its usual construction comprising a leather-free design that mixes mesh and nylon together for a sneaker that’s straight from the running archives of the ’90s.

Chunky all over and worn out all around, the Runner brings in plenty of House cues ranging from the sizing on the toe (here finished in a Tipp-Ex look), Runner branding in a similar manner on the lateral-side midsole, Balenciaga embroidery on the tongue and further branding on the heel clip, “Sporty B” logos on the rear alongside more sizing, even more branding on the vamp, and finishing touches like pull tabs and rope laces. Adding to the Runner’s vintage look and feel is a bulky multi-piece sole unit that, on the underside, is marked in black, silver and blue to denote pressure points on the foot.
