GANT FW22 Is an Ode to New York City
Celebrating the city’s influence on the brand over seven decades.
For Fall/Winter 2022, GANT writes a love letter to New York City, one that stylistically articulates the American fashion capital’s unequivocal influence on the label’s 73 years of business.
Revisiting its decades-spanning archive of gritty grails and polished fashion tropes alike, the imprint’s latest collection makes new from the old in two distinct chapters. The first enters the season with cues from the Ivy League wardrobe, nodding to the brand’s heritage in American East Coast tailoring. Wool varsity jackets claim priority, next to a slew of outerwear silhouettes including trench coats, bombers, cropped parkas and transitional Harringtons. The color story is classic: reds, yellows and greens pair with lighter tones of mint and pink, contrasting base notes of black and navy.
Following suit, the second installment offers a healthy dose of controlled chaos, with designs referencing rodeo, romantic bohemia and signature sportswear. Two-tone suits, doused in creams, browns and oranges, meet the downtown dress code, while shearling and faux fur coats declare an opulent statement. Prints also take centerstage, with a catalog ranging from paisley to leopard, on a series of bold-minded ensembles.
“With this collection, we really wanted to put the focus back on the core and DNA of our brand, in an ode to where it all started: New York City,” said Christopher Bastin, GANT’s Creative Director, in a statement. “We’ve utilized our archives and old advertising from the 1970s and 1980s that really tap into the zeitgeist of what was happening to American Sportswear at that time. The results are bolder and more dramatic silhouettes and fabrics, imagined in a more premium and elevated expression.”
