'Star Wars' Honors Director George Lucas With His Own Stormtrooper Action Figure
Featuring original trilogy armor and a removable helmet and blaster.
Star Wars is honoring George Lucas, the visionary behind the franchise, with the release of Hasbro‘s new six-inch action figure: “George Lucas (in Stormtrooper Disguise).”
The collectible arrives as part of “The Black Series” toy collection and cleverly turns Lucas into a Stormtrooper with original trilogy armor and a removable helmet and blaster. The action figure will be released in 2022, in tandem with the 50th anniversary of the director’s production company, Lucasfilm.
“As a lifelong Star Wars fan, I have both the honor and privilege to bring characters from the franchise to life in product form every single day,” said Vickie Stratford, Hasbro’s senior director of product design. “When the opportunity came to design the George Lucas figure, we were especially excited for this project. This figure is just one of the many ways we can honor his legacy for years to come, and we hope fans cherish it as much as we did.”
The George Lucas (in Stormtrooper Disguise) figurine is only the latest toy-sized transformation the director has received. In 2002, Hasbro created a 3.75-inch rebel pilot Jord Sacul based on Lucas, as a Star Wars Celebration II exclusive. Then, in 2006, the franchise creator was remastered as a Baron Panoida, his character from Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, for the Lucas Collector’s Set.
The George Lucas (in Stormtrooper Disguise) action figure will be available for pre-order on September 29 at 1 p.m. ET on Amazon. Price details have not yet been disclosed.
Elsewhere, LEGO has created a Volkswagen T2 camper van kit.
