The previous trailer was only one minute and featured a brief one-liner from the actress. The official trailer gives audiences a greater glimpse of the events of the film, which is set over a single weekend at Sandringham House. Throughout the film, Princess Diana, played by Stewart, is seen contemplating the end of her marriage to Prince Charles. While each year, the Christmas festivities are in full force, this year’s events are overwhelmed with rumors of affairs and an imminent divorce.
The film debuted at Venice Film Festival and received raving reviews. With the release of the film, Stewart has instantly become a front runner for the Oscar Best Actress race. At the Toronto International Film Festival, Stewart revealed that she did not read the script before signing on to play the role. She explained how she got in touch with director Pablo Larraín, “He called me on the phone. At first, I hadn’t read the script yet and he proposed this idea and said he was doing this sort of weird tone poem about Diana, and asked whether or not I would be interested in tackling the subject at all before he sent the script. Kind of without thinking, very irresponsibly, I said ‘Yes, absolutely.’”
Spencer hits theaters on November 5. Watch the official trailer above.
