Netflix Drops 'Seinfeld' Trailer Ahead of the Sitcom's 180-Episode Premiere
All nine seasons will be available to stream on October 1.
Netflix on Friday dropped off the official trailer for NBC‘s top-rated sitcom Seinfeld, which is slated to land on the streamer with a 180-episode premiere on October 1.
The two-minute trailer humorously calls Seinfield “this fall’s hottest new show,” though the series’ nine seasons originally aired from July 1989 to May 1998.
“We all have that one friend,” the visual reads, before introducing the show’s main characters. “Meet four of them.” Set in Manhattan’s Upper West Side, Seinfeld stars comedian Jerry Seinfeld as a fictional version of himself and follows the story of his personal life alongside three of his friends, George Costanza (Jason Alexander), Elaine Benes (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and Cosmo Kramer (Michael Richards). The series was co-created by Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld.
Seinfeld‘s move to Netflix has been a long time coming — the streamer first purchased rights to the series for $500 million USD in 2019, after losing popular sitcoms The Office and Friends. The series was previously available to stream on Hulu for a period of time, but has since been removed after its contract expired in June. Netflix will host Seinfeld for the next five years, and the sitcom will continue to air on Viacom networks including Comedy Central, Paramount Network and TV Land.
