Apple at its Keynote event on Tuesday unveiled the next-generation Apple Watch Series 7, designed with faster charging, all new accessories and the enhanced watchOS 8.

The latest Apple Watch release includes several key updates, including a brighter, Always-On Retina display with 20% more screen area and ultra-thin 1.7 mm borders with softer and more rounded corners. The user interface has been optimized with the new display in mind, offering larger font sizes and a new QWERTY keyboard that makes typing and reading texts from the Apple Watch easier than ever. Larger menu titles and buttons in apps, like the Alarm app, have also been added.

The watch also received powerful upgrades to its durability, including a redesigned front crystal with a more robust geometry that makes it stronger than previous models and more resistant to cracks. The Series 7 is also IP6X dust-resistant, making it more durable in sandy areas like the beach, with the same water resistance rating of WR50 as its predecessors. The watch features two all-new faces including Contour and Modular Duo.

Updates have also been made to the watch’s charging capabilities, allowing for 18-hour battery life on a single charge, a 33% boost from the Series 6. To facilitate faster charging, the watch has been redesigned with new charging architecture and Magnetic Fast Charger USB-C Cable.

Along with the new hardware comes updates to the Watch operating system, introducing watchOS 8, optimized for the larger screen area. The OS update offers better fitness tracking, including advanced algorithms to analyze GPS, heart rate, accelerometer, and gyroscope for bikers. Additionally, Apple has enhanced its fall detection algorithms for better safety during workouts and biking.

“Apple Watch Series 7 delivers significant improvements — from our largest and most advanced display, to enhanced durability and faster charging — making the world’s best smartwatch better than ever before,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer.

The watch is available in 41 mm and 45 mm sizes and comes in five brand new aluminum case colors, including midnight, starlight, green, a new blue and (PRODUCT)RED. Additionally, new bands have been introduced, including several Hermes styles and a refreshed Nike Sport Loop.

All Apple Watch Series 7 models will be available later this fall. Apple Watch Series 7 will start at$399 USD, Apple Watch SE starts at $279 USD and Apple Watch Series 3 starts at $199 USD. Accessories will be available to order from today, while the Apple Watch Hermès Series 7 and the new Apple Watch Hermès bands will be available later this fall.

Check out the new iPhone and iPad lineups also unveiled at the keynote event.
