Amazon Reveals New Kindle Paperwhite With Larger Screen and 10-Week Battery Life
The updated device includes USB-C charging.
Amazon on Tuesday unveiled three updated models of its Kindle Paperwhite.
Marking the company’s first large renovation to the e-reader since 2018, the three new versions include the standard Paperwhite, a Paperwhite Kids edition and the Paperwhite Signature Edition.
The basic Paperwhite is equipped with a larger 6.8-inch screen with smaller bezels than the previous model and a faster processor that produces “20% faster page turns” than the old Paperwhite. The device’s front-light now utilizes 17 LEDs (as opposed to only five in the last version) for a smoother lighting effect.
Additionally, the new e-reader is said to have a longer battery life, improving from six weeks to roughly 10 weeks from a single charge. With an updated USB-C charging port, the Paperwhite can fully charge in approximately two and a half hours.
The Paperwhite Signature Edition appears identical to the basic edition, but it offers three internal enhancements. The device includes Qi wireless charging for more convenient recharging, 32GB of storage, compared to the standard version’s 8GB, and an auto-brightness sensor.
The Kids model, which has ads turned off by default, arrives in its own case and includes a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids+ and a two-year “worry-free guarantee” warranty.
The new Kindles are available for pre-order beginning today and will ship on October 27. The standard Paperwhite is listed for $139.99 USD, the Paperwhite Signature Edition is priced at $189.99 USD and the Paperwhite Kids model costs $159 USD.
