Lizzo and Cardi B Strike Back Against “Rumors” in Empowering New Anthem

For her first music release in over two years, Lizzo tapped Cardi to address rumors and the never-ending cycle of gossip that pervades the industry.
Decked out in gold, the duo graces fans from the heavens in the “Rumors” visual to tell the world that they’re over the gossip about them.“Spendin’ all your time tryna break a woman down,” Lizzo sings, calling out the haters. “Realer s*** is goin’ on, baby.”
Cardi joins in to mockingly say that “the rumors are true” about her having had plastic surgery, one of the salacious rumors that has been spread over the years.
Lizzo announced the song earlier this week on a FaceTime call with Cardi posted to Instagram. In the video, she wakes up a sleeping Cardi to share that the rapper is “who it’s featuring ya’ll, period.” Cardi later confirmed Lizzo’s news in her own Instagram post with the single’s cover art.
The track is the first new music fans have heard from Lizzo since 2019’s Cuz I Love You, which poised the singer for breakout success with hits such as “Juice” and “Tempo” featuring Missy Elliott.
While there hasn’t been word of another album just yet, Lizzo will be doing a festival run this fall, performing at Bonnaroo, Global Citizen Live, Outsidelands, and more.
