A24 has officially picked up the North American rights to Valdimar Jóhannsson’s debut feature film, Lamb.
Starring Noomi Rapace of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Hilmir Snaer Gu∂nason and Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, the forthcoming supernatural drama follows a childless couple in rural Iceland as they “make an alarming discovery one day in their sheep barn. They soon face the consequences of defying the will of nature, in this dark and atmospheric folktale, the striking debut feature from director Valdimar Jóhannsson.”
”The movie is original, imaginative and has cult potential that the label can help us achieve,” Jan Naszewski of New Europe Film Sales said in a statement.
Lamb is part of the 2021 Cannes Film Festival selection, in the Un Certain Regard category, where it is set to make its premiere. It will be competing against Justin Chon’s Blue Bayou, Tatiana Huezo’s Prayers for the Stolen and C.B. Yi’s Moneyboys to name a few. Cannes 2021 will take place from July 6 to 17.
