Telfar Links Up With UGG to Reimagine Cozy Dressing
“We just got a vibe from the beginning that this was going to be sexy, but also extremely funny.”
UGG and Telfar have unveiled the first drop of their collaboration, coming after the partnership was teased by the designer himself last year. The all-gender collection consists of UGG’s signature footwear, alongside both apparel and underwear.
The footwear items are the collection’s stand-out pieces, with two heights of UGG’s Classic Boot silhouette. Both the ankle-length and calf-high boots are based on printed heather sweats from TELFAR’s mainline collections, which have then been reimagined across the uppers.
Additionally, the Spring/Summer 2021 release features apparel and underwear inspired by the cozy footwear. The collaborative T-shirt is encrusted with a a co-branded logo, while the underwear features the same logo repeated across the elasticized satin waistband.
Describing working with UGG as “orgasmic,” Telfar explained the cozy-influence to HYPEBEAST: “We wanted to be more UGG than UGG. We wanted peak UGG.” Discussing the collaboration, Telfar also discussed the importance of keeping a sense of fun in the project. “We’ve had so much fun with this collab,” the designer added. “We just got a vibe from the beginning that this was going to be sexy, but also extremely funny. Fashion and streetwear don’t do funny much. That’s a shame.”
By working with UGG, Telfar is continuing his previously-discussed goal of creating “value without scarcity.” As he sums up, “this shit is the bomb and affordable!”
The collection will release via the Telfar web store on June 14, before launching via the UGG site and retail stores a week later. A second UGG x Telfer collection will arrive in September this year.
