Sports Direct Taps clothsurgeon To Reinvent Iconic Football Kits From Its Archives
Ahead of the EURO 2020 Championship.

Having discussed his personal connection to football and the importance of this collaboration, Rav Matharu’s label clothsurgeon has teamed up with Sports Direct to launch a limited-edition capsule collection for the retailer’s ‘Just A Game?!’ campaign ahead of the EURO 2020 Championship.
Operating out of its East London atelier, clothsurgeon has been provided access to Sports Direct’s extensive archive of football kits. Revered for its detailed craftsmanship, the range fuses the luxury brand’s deconstructed aesthetic to pay homage to iconic jerseys of the past, and as acknowledgment of Matharu’s own history: having played professionally in his formative years, his football dreams were shattered for reasons beyond his control.
The designer adopts his signature bespoke tailoring practices to combine various vintage fabrics and piece together something wholly new — aiming to visualize the rocky relationship he has with the sport.
The four-piece unisex collection features a tracksuit jacket, bottoms, zip-up vest and canvas bucket hat. Utilizing a black silhouette, its patchwork design boasts flashes of red and white with dual-branded embroidery for a sleek ready-to-wear range.
The bespoke luxury brand typically sits at a higher price-point, to match its time-consuming attention to detail. This time however, clothsurgeon has made this collection’s pricing more accessible through Sports Direct, in the spirit of the beautiful game’s inclusivity — but without compromising its quality. “The silhouettes are crafted with the precise attention to detail you’d expect from clothsurgeon, using high-quality materials and trimmings. There have been no expenses spared,” Matharu says.
