Japanese Chain Marugame Udon Forced To Rename Bukkake Udon Dish

In preparation for its expansion into the west coast of the continental United States, Japanese chain Marugame Udon was forced to rename its Bukkake Udon dish to move away from an unfortunate connection.

Marugame decided to introduce the traditional Japanese noodle dish to the U.S. market under the name “B.K. Udon.” Despite “bukkake” meaning “splash” in the Japanese language, the word has been popularized throughout the U.S. in the adult entertainment world. The term “bukkake” better known amongst English speakers as a genre of porn centered around a specific sexual act. It is important to note that Marugame Udon has kept the Japanese names of other dishes intact, like Nikutama Udon a dish centered around simmered sweet, savory thin slices of beef and a soft hot spring egg.
