Dietrich Watches has revealed a new sporty dive watch collection, the Skin Diver SD-1, that will drop later this year.

The indie brand has gone through a period of considerable change in recent years, moving its collection away from earlier outlandish designs such as Organic Time and Perception, in order to pursue a more premium, ‘Swiss Made’ strategy, first with the brand’s Time Companion in 2017, an ode the integrated bracelet watches of Gerald Genta.

Founder Emmanuel Dietrich plans to focus on ‘reinterpreting the templates of iconic watches from the past’ in the core collection whilst giving himself freedom to experiment on more left field design in an ‘Atelier’ line.

Dietrich has used sapphire crystal not only for the watch glass but also to form the bezel insert and the dial itself. The luminous hour markers are printed directly onto the dial, acting as a visual point of reference and conveying the depth of the material.

The 38.5mm stainless steel case (more evidence that case sizes are coming down) uses a round unidirectional bezel with six fluted grip positions reflecting the brand’s signature hexagon while the watch’s hands, a modern bulbous take on the traditional cathedral hand, are now the only remnant of Dietrich’s 2013 breakthrough design, Organic Time.

Skin Diver SD-1, which is water resistant to 150m, carries over the hexagonal mid-link stainless steel bracelet of the Time Companion, but the watches are also available on ‘tropical’ rubber straps in either black or blue with a hexagonal hobnail imprint.

Just 300 pieces of each color will be available, priced $1,050 USD minus taxes, duties and fees. The brand is taking pre-orders now, which will supplied with a complimentary rubber strap, via its online store with shipping expected in October.
