After illuminating Japan’s Kairakuen garden with interactive light installations, the art technologists at teamLab are back with an unprecedented experience that combines digital art with an actual sauna. Partnering up with Rinkan Sauna, the collaboration entitled “TikTok teamLab Reconnect” will feature immersive installations across different sauna facilities.

One of the highlighted experiences is a sauna trance that features alternating hot and cold baths alongside an array of resonating lamps. The meditative exhibition also includes an installation called Levitation which is comprised of a sphere that hovers in a space between the floor and ceiling as it floats up and down — appearing as if it transcending the concept of mass. Moreover, a wall of digital flowers will also be on view that features different florals changing in real time. A total of three experiences will be offered to visitors that will also inform them on how to engage with each one from information on the repeated exposure to the sauna as well as in-depth background of the presentation through a medical, historical and cultural lens.

“Scientifically speaking, sauna trance is an exceptionally unique neurological state brought about by alternating hot and cold baths (repeated exposure to saunas, cold water, and rest). When entering a sauna trance, the senses sharpen, the mind clears, the beauty of the surrounding world comes into focus, and what normally goes unnoticed can be experienced. Visitors go even deeper by entering the sauna, experiencing a sauna trance, and becoming immersed in the art,” said teamLab in a statement.

Get a closer look at the combined digital art and sauna experience in the video above and then head to teamLab’s website for more information. “TikTok teamLab Reconnect” will be on view from March 22 through August 31 at Rinkan Sauna in Tokyo, Japan.

In other digital art stories, Sotheby’s teased an upcoming NFT collaboration with renowned digital artist Pak.
