The Lexus IS Wax Edition has officially launched with a fully functional turntable built into its dashboard. The custom concept vehicle is a modification of the original 2021 Lexus IS sports sedan. With the addition, the car is capable of playing any vinyl record while the car is in motion.

To celebrate the design feat, the brand brought together legendary producers Madlib and KAYTRANADA to experience the Lexus IS Wax Edition. The two artists and Lexus created a never-before-seen new double-single vinyl to debut in the IS Wax Edition. Madlib released a statement saying, “When I make music, I usually do it in headphones, so I hear everything clear. And I take it to the car, test it out. Every time. That’s the big test. To have the turntable in a Lexus? That’s beyond.”

Seeing that vinyl listening has seen an uptick in numbers recently, Lexus is hoping that its newest model will attract different “drivers with a passion for authenticity and amazing experiences, creating an in-car turntable that works flawlessly with the vehicle in motion was a challenge worth pursuing.” The record player is designed using a 3D printer, carbon fiber and machined aluminum, fitting perfectly into the vehicle’s glovebox while playing a full-size 12-inch record. The rotating motor is expected to stabilize the turntable to avoid any skipping or harm to the record while the vehicle is on the move.

The 2021 Lexus IS Wax Edition will unfortunately not be on sale but will be on display at future in-person Lexus events. The vehicle was designed as a one-off model in celebration of the 2021 Lexus IS sports sedan.
