Disney Debuts Trailer for Live-Action 'Cruella' Starring Emma Stone
The film is scheduled to hit theaters on May 28, 2021.
Emma Stone has been summoned to star as Cruella de Vil in the live-action film Cruella, and Disney has finally released its dark and eerie trailer.
Judging from the clips shown, it seems as though this will be an evil yet thrilling cinematic experience as this motion picture will act as the origin story of the One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961) antagonist. As the Cruella Twitter account posted today, the film is expected to be “Brilliant. Bad. A little bit mad.”
Those words surely ring true as Stone is displayed showing off a rather narcissistic attitude throughout the just over a minute and a half bit. Snippets include everything from the iconic furry coat-wearing character making a grand ballroom appearance where she eventually reveals her wicked black and white hair and bold red lipstick look, to hot wiring a car to burning down a city building, as well as other evil action scenes.
The movie was directed by Craig Gillespie who also took the lead for crafting for I, Tonya with Margot Robbie, and features other actors such as Emma Thompson, who plays the role of the Baroness, Joel Fry, Emily Beecham, Mark Strong and Paul Walter Hauser.
Based off of the initial responses from the teaser, many are already drawing comparisons to Joaquin Phoenix‘s role as the Joker from 2019 as it channels similar storytelling nuances that reflect the genesis of a villain.
