Rado Works With Industrial Designer Tej Chauhan to Explore the Near Future
The True Square x Tej Chauhan features a case made from matt finish ceramic.
Award-winning British designer Tej Chauhan has brought his own brand of ‘emotive industrial design’ to Rado, resulting in an eye-catching ceramic watch that wouldn’t have looked out of place in Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.
With a brief to explore the ‘near future’, the Rado True Square x Tej Chauhan presents a bright yellow solid ceramic case, created using an injection moulding process, with a matt finish which is uncommon for Rado, designed to highlight the nature of the material.
The watch is then secured on a stitched, padded leather strap to add a contrasting tactile sensation for the wearer. The case is sealed with a dark grey PVD-coated and engraved stainless steel and sapphire crystal caseback.
Chauhan focuses the eye on the matt black dial by forming it of concentric circles at odds with the square case, while high contrast red and white hands ensure strong legibility. The date wheel features numerals printed in orange using a bespoke font created by Chauhan.
Inside is an ETA C07.611 automatic movement offering 80 hours of power reserve.
The Rado True Square x Tej Chauhan is available now via Rado, priced at $1,800 USD.
Elsewhere in watches, Porsche Design makes new flyback chronograph exclusively for owners of new 911 GT3 supercar.
